Quote of the Day

From Lectures on Calvinism:

"Understand that art is no fringe that is attached to the garment, and no amusement that is added to life, but a most serious power in our present existence, and therefore its principal variation must maintain, in their artistic expression, a close relation with the principal variations of our entire life; and since, without exception, these principal variations of our entire human existence are dominated by our relation to God, would it not be both a degradation and an underestimation of art, if you were to imagine the ramifications, into which the art-trunk divides itself, to be independent of the deepest root which all human life has in God?" (p.151)

MECHE Skits

Every year for the past four years, we (homeschool graduates & students) get together to perform skits for our local mom's group.
Before the action begins, we rehearse - and play around to get rid of jitters.
In the end, the moms arrive. We stand backstage giving last-minute comments, suggestions, and reminders...
And taking foot pictures.
There are old favorites - like a MECHE meeting spoof.
And new craziness. Like a spoof of a real homeschool family...
Or an extremely fake, over-protective homeschool mom.
Even the cast of Star Wars made an appearance.
Our musical numbers seem to get better each year. "Take Our Test" - a spoof of "Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast is, in my opinion, the best!
My absolute favorite skit? The above.  An intense liberal talk show. :) Now I'm already thinking about next year.

Dancing Again

In case you were wondering, dancing is just as fun as it looks.
Perhaps even more. If that's possible.
Dancing and enjoying the company of fellow believers is fabulously fun!
Can't you tell?

Mystery May?

Calling all Bibliophiles! Hey! Did you participate in the Mystery May of 2011? Yes? No?

...Well, in any case, I'm once again hosting a month-long celebration of mystery stories, and I invite you to share in the experience. Blog about your favorite authors, adventures, and sleuths. And don't forget to comment here so that we can all check it out!

Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None is first on my list... and I'm hoping to work some Poe in here somewhere... How about you?
